Financial/Operations Controller - Memphis, TN

P&P is a growing Industrial Services company with $50M in annual revenue and a team of 100 dedicated employees. We are seeking a hands-on and strategic Financial Controller to lead our accounting operations, ensure GAAP compliance, and drive profitability through data-backed insights.

Job description:

Duties and Responsibilities

1.      Financial Accounting and Reporting

  • Manage all accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, General Ledger, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting, and Revenue Recognition.

  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts, reporting variances to executive leadership.

  • Prepare and publish timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

  • Ensure all financial reporting strictly complies with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

2.      Cash Flow and Risk Management

  • Monitor cash balances and oversee cash forecasting to ensure liquidity for business operations and debt covenants.

  • Develop internal controls, segregation of duties, and fraud-prevention protocols to safeguard company assets.

  • Oversee business insurance policies, corporate credit cards, and banking relationships.

3.      Tax and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax reporting requirements and filings (including payroll and sales/use taxes).

  • Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors, tax CPAs, and regulatory agencies.

4.      Leadership and Strategy

  • Lead, mentor, and evaluate the internal accounting team (approx. 2-5 staff members).

  • Provide financial analyses and strategic recommendations to management regarding pricing, capital investments, and cost-reduction opportunities.

  • Evaluate and implement financial software and automation tools to streamline accounting processes.

5.      Operational Management

  • Oversee day-to-day operations and continuously evaluate workflows/processes to improve productivity and efficiency. 

6.      Help Desk & User Support

  • Serve as the first point of contact for internal staff regarding hardware/software troubleshooting, password resets, and access issues.

7.      IT Troubleshooting 

  • Resolve fundamental network, email, and software issues, escalating complex or hardware-repair tickets to third-party IT contractors or managed service providers.

8.      Hardware & Software Lifecycle

  • Manage IT asset inventory, procure new equipment, set up workstations for new hires, and securely wipe/decommission old devices. 

9.      Systems Ownership

  • Own the architecture, roadmap, and governance of core business platforms.

10.  Data Governance

  • Maintain data integrity, build reports/dashboards, and establish business intelligence (BI) frameworks for leadership

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Master of Business Administration (MBA) highly preferred.

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting and management experience.

  • Strong proficiency in ERP systems and advanced financial modeling.

  • Technical Accounting: Mastery of GAAP standards and technical accounting issues.

  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to identify financial trends and formulate actionable strategies.

  • Communication: Ability to distill complex financial data into digestible formats for non-financial stakeholders.

  • Leadership: Experience managing, training, and developing accounting personnel.

 

Working Conditions

  • Standard office environment (On-site).

  • Extended hours may be required during peak periods such as month-end, year-end, and audit seasons
